Convert PDF to image without losing quality

This PDF to image converter renders each page of a document as a picture you can post, paste or edit. It's the quickest way to drop one page of a report into a slide, share a flyer on social media, attach a page to a chat, or pull a diagram out of a manual.

You control the two things that decide quality: the file format (lossless PNG or compact JPEG) and the resolution in DPI. The rendering happens in your browser, so even confidential PDFs never leave your device.

How to convert a PDF to images

A ten-page PDF at 150 DPI usually takes a few seconds.

  1. 1

Choosing the right DPI

DPI sets how many pixels each inch of the page becomes. Higher DPI means sharper images and much bigger files; doubling the DPI roughly quadruples the pixel count.

DPIA4 page in pixelsLetter page in pixelsUse it for
72595 × 842612 × 792Previews, thumbnails, chat messages
1501240 × 17541275 × 1650Reading on screen, slides, websites; the default
3002480 × 35082550 × 3300Printing, zooming into fine print, OCR software

If you're unsure, start with 150. It's sharp on a laptop or phone and keeps the ZIP to a manageable size.

PNG or JPEG: which output to pick

PNG for text and graphics

PNG is lossless, so letters, table borders and thin lines come out exactly as the PDF draws them. It's the best choice for contracts, spreadsheets, charts and anything you'll zoom into. The trade-off is size: a 300 DPI PNG of a text page can be 1 MB or more.

JPEG for scans and photos

If the PDF is a scan or a photo-heavy brochure, JPEG gives files a fraction of the size with no difference you'd notice. It's also the format every app, website and printer accepts. For a JPEG-only workflow, the PDF to JPG page has the same options in a simpler layout.

What happens to text, links and layers

An image is a flat picture, so the text in it can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links stop being clickable. Forms are drawn as they appear on screen. If you need editable text rather than pictures, PDF to Word extracts it into a document instead.

Pages keep their own shape. A landscape page becomes a landscape image, and a mixed document produces a mix of portrait and landscape files.

If the images don't look right

  • Text looks fuzzy. Raise the DPI to 300 and switch to PNG. At 72 DPI, small print on an A4 page simply doesn't have enough pixels.
  • The ZIP is huge. Lower the DPI to 150, switch to JPEG, or convert only the pages you need with From page and To page.
  • A page comes out blank or missing elements. Some PDFs use unusual fonts or layers that browsers struggle with. Open the file in a PDF reader, save or print it to a new PDF, and convert that copy.
  • Colors look slightly different. PDFs designed for print may use CMYK colors, which are shown in screen colors once rendered. For on-screen use the difference is rarely noticeable.
  • Conversion stops on a phone. High DPI on long documents uses a lot of memory. Convert in smaller page ranges or use a laptop.

Converting on Windows, Mac and mobile

Because the converter runs in the browser, it works the same in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There's nothing to install and no app to keep updated.

On a phone, the ZIP file lands in your Downloads folder or the Files app. Android and iOS can both open ZIPs: tap the file to extract the images, then share or save them to your gallery. If you only need one page, set the same page number for From and To and you'll get a single image you can share immediately.

Limits and privacy

You can convert PDFs of up to 250 MB, 50 pages at a time. Password-protected files need the password removed first. Very large pages at 300 DPI use a lot of memory, so on an older phone choose 150 DPI or a shorter page range.

The PDF is opened and rendered in your browser with no upload, no account and no watermark on the images. Going the other way? Image to PDF turns pictures back into a document.

Your original PDF isn't changed.
