Merge PDF files into one document

This tool lets you merge PDF files online without installing anything or creating an account. Add the documents, arrange them, and you get one tidy PDF back, ready to email or upload.

People use it for things like sending a single file with an application form, a CV and certificates; combining monthly bank statements for a loan; joining scanned pages that a scanner saved one by one; or putting invoices and receipts together for an expense claim.

How to merge PDF files

You need at least two files. The whole thing usually takes less time than attaching them to an email one by one.

Merge PDF online free, without uploading

Most online PDF mergers upload your files to their servers, combine them there and send the result back. That's slow on mobile data and means your documents sit on someone else's computer, at least for a while.

Here the merging code runs inside your browser tab. Your PDFs are read from your device, combined in memory and saved straight back to your downloads folder. It's free to use as often as you like, and the merged PDF carries no watermark or added pages.

How to merge PDF files on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone

The steps are the same everywhere because the tool runs in the browser. On Windows and Mac, you can drag a whole selection of PDFs from File Explorer or Finder straight onto the drop box. On Android, tap the box and choose files from Downloads or Drive. On iPhone and iPad, tap the box, pick Browse, and select the PDFs from the Files app; hold and tap to choose several at once.

The merged PDF lands wherever your browser saves downloads. On a phone that's normally the Downloads folder or the Files app, from where you can attach it to an email or upload it to a portal.

Three common ways people merge PDF files

A job or university application in one file

Portals often allow a single attachment. Put the cover letter first, then the CV, then degree certificates and mark sheets in date order. Merge, then check the total size against the portal's limit. Pages from a scanner that saves one file per page

Many office scanners and phone scanning apps create scan_001.pdf, scan_002.pdf and so on. Select them all at once; if the names are numbered, they'll usually arrive in the right sequence. Glance at the list, fix anything out of place, and merge them into one document you can actually send.

Statements, invoices and receipts

For a loan, visa or tax filing you might need six or twelve months of statements as one PDF. Download each month, add them oldest first, and merge. For expense claims, put the summary sheet first and the receipts after it, so whoever approves it sees the total before the detail.

Tips for a clean merged PDF

• Name files with a number first, like 01-cover.pdf and 02-cv.pdf. They'll be easier to put in order, and you can check the sequence at a glance.
• Check page orientation in the originals. A sideways page stays sideways after merging, so fix it in the source document first.
• Compress after merging, not before. Running Compress PDF on the final file is one step instead of many, and the presets treat every page the same way.
• Mind upload limits. If a portal accepts one file of up to 2 MB, merge first, then compress, then confirm the final size before you submit.

Limits

You can merge up to 20 PDF files at a time, each up to 250 MB, with a combined maximum of 200 pages. Very large scans make the browser work harder, so on an older phone a big merge may take a minute. If a merge fails because of memory, try a desktop browser or split the job into two smaller merges.
